Chapter 4: The Unreal World

Angie’s eyes rested on a candy cottage, where she saw a blue penguin sitting on a giant cinnamon roll. He was holding a candy cane behind his back.

“Would you mind telling me what all this is? It seems to be candy, but apparently, it is not.”

“Sir, these are blocks forming walls, and I’m here to clear them out.”

“Well then, my name is Sir Puff, and I live in this house. I am trapped in my own home because of this, and I cannot make money when I’m stuck here.”

“Money? What do you mean?”

“Well, the magic here causes candies to grow and spawn spontaneously. Other pets order custom candies from me, and I harvest the needed candies and cook it up for them. You see, not long before these walls appeared, Emperor Tatsuya ordered me to make some toffee for the dinner party after the Pet Unity Conference, but his servant never came to pick it up. It’s still boiling here in case he tries to get it again.”

“I see. Well, I’ve got to go break these walls!”

After 15 days, Angie had cleared all the walls in his candy cottage, which in her opinion, was more of a gingerbread house. Sir Puff took some of the toffee, wrapped it in candy wrapper, and gave it to Angie as a thank-you gift.

Angie scampered across several wooden planks that served as a bridge and heard sounds of moaning and groaning. She realized that the forest had become a grumpy forest, and that all the trees were not feeling good.

Angie saw a bat standing on a tree stump. She was holding a teddy bear and a lantern. Angie asked her what she was doing.

“I’m only a young bat, and I’m looking for my parents.”

“I’m looking for my parents as well, but maybe you should have someone take care of you until you’re older. When I’m done taking care of these walls, I can find a place for you to live in. I might find your parents someday. For now, all you can do is hope for the best.”

“Thank you. Do you know why all the trees are grumpy?”

Angie was about to say that she didn’t know when the trees grunted out a song.

“We used to be a happy bunch

‘til one fateful day,

When nasty creatures tromped inside

And cut our friends away.

They got rid of all the pets

And put them between bricks,

And if you try to save ‘em,

Then you’re taking a big risk.”

“Oh, you must be talking about the walls.  Well, I’ve gone very far in breaking them. I can help you with that.”

“No, no.” The trees replied. “Danger awaits you if you try to save the pets.”

“Yes, I know there’s danger in this, but I can do it if I try.”

“All right, we trust you. There’s clean water in the cauldron if you want some.”

“Thank you very much.”

14 days had passed, and Angie had taken down enough walls that she had to cross the river a second time. She took the bat to Princess Catarina and entrusted it in her care.

“Be careful!” The trees grunted out. “There be dragons!”

Angie soon realized that the tree’s warning had a literal meaning: she was suddenly face-to-face with a magenta dragon! The dragon was wearing blue oven mitts as she picked up a large, smooth, purple egg and placed it somewhere else in the rocks.

“What are you doing here? You can’t just set foot in the Royal Vaults without a written permit from the ruler of Mystic Path!” Just then, Princess Catarina came scurrying down the road.

“Angie is very trustworthy, Reisa. You should let her in because she’ll clear the walls for you. I forgot to tell you that on your way, you will encounter a rocky area where treasure is being guarded by dragons. Sorry about that.”

“It’s alright, Princess Catarina.”

“Huh, I thought you were a thief. I’m worried because I’m old and these dragon eggs hatch dragons to become the new guards of the Royal vaults. Because of these walls, we can’t get any firestone shipments from Fantastic Frontier.  Firestone is a crucial gemstone for incubating dragon eggs as it can absorb the heat of the magma below and distribute it all over the nursery area, which is where we are standing. Firestones are carved and stuck into the cracks to achieve this, and then they are bordered by a fence because they are very hot and we don’t want baby dragons to step on them.”

“I think I can use my psychic powers to achieve the same goal.” Princess Catarina said. She concentrated and made small pink spheres of magic that went into the magma showing through the cracks. The nursery gradually heated up and after a few minutes, the dragon eggs started shaking.”

“I think it worked, Princess Catarina.” Reisa said. “When dragon eggs start shaking, it means that they’re in good health and that the chances of hatching are high. When dragon eggs get cracks, then that means that they’re close to hatching. These eggs are resilient in nature, but I didn’t know that they could survive for that long. Thank you, Your Majesty.”

“You’re welcome. I have to go, Reisa.”

After 17 days of breaking walls, Angie was able to see the treasure in the vault.  It was being inspected and polished by a monkey wearing a genie costume. There were all kinds of gold treasure, such as goblets, necklaces, genie lamps, rings, and gold coins still in their treasure chest.

“Ah, my name is Khalid, and I preserve and keep track of the treasures being guarded in the royal vaults. If a treasure is stolen, I can tell when I do the inventory. The blacksmiths have unlimited access to the vaults, and they can get some gold to work with when needed. However, these walls have made the Vaults inaccessible for some time. Princess Catarina claims that you can break these walls. Is that true?”

“Yes, and I’ll prove it to you. However, you need to be patient, as this will take about two weeks.”

After 16 days, Angie broke enough walls to exit the vaults. What she saw next was a large junkyard.

When Angie got closer, she saw a raccoon sitting on the porch of his wooden shed. He wore patched denim pants.

“Oh, I haven’t had a visitor in ages. I’m a dumpster worker and these walls are blocking this place. You see, this may just be a dumpster to you, but the forest behind this shed has one of the major ways to get to Lost and Foundland.”

“Will you show me the way if I break all the walls here?”

“Yes. It’s a deal.”

After 14 days, Angie had broken all the walls on the path leading to the wooden shed. The dumpster raccoon took her through the back door of the shed and showed her a tree with a fairly large space carved into it.

“Just sit inside the space and pull the string, and you’ll get to Lost And Foundland.”

Angie followed his instructions, and the tree started spinning so fast that she fell unconscious.
