Angie and Conlan looked at the royal gardens with awe. There were stone lanterns, pink trees, flowering bushes, and colorful paper lanterns. Unsure whether they should step in or not, a crane came in. She looked very elegant, wearing kanzashi (Japanese hair ornaments) and holding a fan and parasol.
“Come in.” She said calmly.
“Welcome to the royal gardens. My name is Minashi-Sakura Inoue, the princess of the Valley of Wonder. The pets around this area call this Lucky Lanterns garden. It’s because of a superstition. Every month on the new moon, I release a lantern into the air and they believe that if they see it, it will bring them good luck. Anyway, what are you doing here?”
“We’re trying to rescue the pets. Some dreadful creature took most of them. We need to get permission from you to continue.”
“Hmm, you say you want to rescue pets, right? It seems like a very daunting task, but I believe in you.”
“Thank you, Your Highness.”
“Also, you can just call me Minashi-Sakura. Don’t try to refer to me as a royal. I don’t think I am royal at this state.”
“What do you mean by that?” asked Conlan.
“My parents never told me what to do in case they got kidnapped. However, I was lucky to be at the gardens instead of the castle when the walls came down. Otherwise, I would be a prisoner in my own home.”
“Minashi-Sakura,” Asked Angie. “I heard that Queen Felicia used to rule this kingdom as well. How did the throne switch to whoever your parents were?”
“Someone attempted to bring balance back to the Pet World by tricking Queen Felicia. You see, it is highly discouraged to have 2 Crystals of Unity because you might not be able to control its powers, thus resulting in chaos. King P’s lapis lazuli can summon rain, Queen Abigail’s ring has psychic capabilities, Queen Felicia’s Crystal creates light, and my Crystal, which is a rose quartz carved into a cherry blossom, can control wind. Only the rightful owner or someone pure of heart can unlock the gem’s powers. If the wielder has ill intention for the Crystal’s powers, they will control their own powers against its wielder and try to make its way back to its rightful owner.”
“How was Queen Felicia tricked?” Conlan inquired.
“Before I was born, my egg was painted gold to blend in with the phoenix eggs. When I hatched, Queen Felicia gave the monarchy test to all married crane couples to determine who would raise me. She decided that the worthy couple would raise me as my child and rule over the Valley of Wonder. Please, do go on and show me how walls can be broken.”
Conlan then complimented her for her beauty, and Minashi-Sakura explained that she could never see it because she was blind from birth and relied on sound to find her way.
After 2 weeks, Angie and Conlan crossed a wooden bridge to go to Chocolate Springs, where a hippopotamus lived.
“Hey, sugar, how are you doing? Want some waffles? Chocolate perhaps?”
“No need for that, my lass.” Conlan said as he touched her chin.
Angie gagged and shook her head before saying: “Anyways, we’re only here to break the walls, so you can mind your own business. Don’t mind my partner, he’s just flamboyant.”
Conlan glared at Angie.
Angie was setting up her sleeping bag in Minashi-Sakura’s garden when Conlan whispered: “Why are you telling people to ignore me all the time?”
“Well because you act obnoxious sometimes!” Angie forgot to whisper and ended up shouting.
“Can you please keep it down in here?” Minashi-Sakura said from her nest. “My hearing is more sensitive because I’m blind.”
“Sorry.” Angie said.
Thirteen days later, Angie and Conlan were ready to go to Curio City, the museum of the Valley of Wonder.
“Hey there, my name is Alvaro. I guard this place and I’m here to make sure you steal NOTHING!”
“Don’t worry, Alvaro.” Angie said.
“Yeah! She’s very trustworthy! She only wants to break the walls.” Conlan added.
“Well…” Alvaro thought. “I could use a wall-breaker. Hey there, kitten, if you can break the walls like he says you will, then I’m paying you.”
“Don’t call me kitten.” Angie said with a hint of anger in her voice. “My name’s Angie.”
17 days later, a movie studio was in sight. Alvaro gave Angie a bag of silver pawns and sent her off.
On a hill, there was a block-letter sign reading PETSYWOOD. They saw a brown poodle sitting on a chair for movie cast.
“Hello there. My name is Addie, and my chaperones aren’t picking me up yet. Also, you aren’t allowed here. GET OUT THIS INSTANT!”
“Why, mi’lady,” Conlan said. “We meant no harm. In fact, we want to break the walls so that maybe, your chaperones might come back to you.”
“CONLAN, STOP BEING FLIRTY!!” Angie yelled.
“Why, how dare you?” Addie interjected. “He’s such a sweetie, isn’t he?”
Angie groaned and started breaking a wall by herself.
After 3 weeks, the movie staff were free to roam once again. However, they still couldn’t shoot their movie because their next shooting location was 3 kingdoms away.
Angie looked up and saw a paper waterfall slowly turning into a real one. There was an owl wearing a graduation cap who was reading a book.
“Ah, welcome, welcome to Multistory Stack, library and literacy center. How do you do, fair lady?”
“Why, we’re just here to clear some walls that have been placed on your wonderful library.”
“Ah, yes, these walls are a tragedy, but you are the hero who shall prevail. You look like you have a good story, do you?”
“Um, yes?” Angie said reluctantly.
After 17 days, the owl librarian gave Angie a book explaining puzzles.
Angie and Conlan saw a place filled to the brim with passenger hot air balloons of different colors. A bunny wearing pilot’s gear hopped over to them.
“Welcome to Hot Air Fair, laddies and lassies! I’m Ripley, here to show you what kinds of hot air balloons we’ve got! Unfortunately, these walls seem to be holding these balloons back, so no sales today.”
“It’s okay, Ripley.” Angie said. “We’ll break these walls for you. After that, maybe you can repair the hot air balloons so that we can ride.”
20 days later, Angie and Conlan broke all the walls so that Ripley could repair the balloons.
“Hmm…” Ripley thought. There’s only two of you. Well, I guess you’ll be taking the blue one. Where do you wanna go?”
“We want to go to Fantastic Frontier. We want to rescue the pets so that I can find my parents.”
“50 silver pawns per head, and off we go!”
Angie and Conlan paid their fee and got into the blue hot air balloon. Ripley unfastened its tethers, lit the flame, and started steering it towards the Fantastic Frontier.
