Chapter 9: The Fantastic Frontier
Five hours later…
Angie and Conlan had arrived at the Fantastic Frontier. She was greeted by a wizard known as Wolfento. He told her that he was a wizard who made the civilization of the Pet World what it is today. He also told her that she was standing in the Ancient Stones, ruins of the Pet Unity Court, where all the rulers of the pet world’s different kingdoms met for a conference about the state of their respective kingdoms.
One night, Wolfento said to Angie: “All the rulers of the pet world were kidnapped on the same night except for King P. Here is why…”
He showed her a book called Pet Unity Conferences of Decade 2011-. He flipped to a certain page and read: “As Queen Felicia was reporting the current state of her kingdom, a bomb exploded behind everyone. “Evacuate!!” King Endro, ruler of Wacky Wonderland, shouted. Everybody began to run towards the nearest exit, but the bombs had been chucked strategically so rubble would block most of them. Queen Livida cast a recall orb, which King P successfully touched to return to his castle. Prince Louis, the heir to Wacky Wonderland, used his Crystal of Unity to cast a bridge of light going back to his palace, but he and his parents got hit by the tranquilizer darts before they reached the other side. Right after the pets were sure that they were trapped, the hunters fired some tranquilizer darts, hauled the pets away, and then bombed what remained of the Pet Unity Court.
Chapter 3
The Aftermath
The day after that disastrous meeting, Princess Minashi-Sakura Inoue of the Valley of Wonder was accompanied by Alvaro to the ruins of Pet Unity Court. “I sense the Crystals of Unity.” She said. “Alvaro, let’s find themtake them back to their respective kingdoms.”
Wolfento stopped reading the book right there.
After 18 days, Angie and Conlan went to Pillage Village, a Viking town full of otters. They met an otter ready for battle. As soon as they were in the otter’s line of sight, he swung his battle ax towards them.
“No!” shouted Angie whilst ducking. “We aren’t enemies. We only came here to break the walls.” The otter dropped his battle ax and introduced himself.
“Sorry for intimidating you. I’m Oskar the Claw-Scratcher, and my reflexes must have reacted. Anyhow, welcome to Pillage Village. Our army is strong, but our army is also trapped in walls they cannot break.”
“What do you even do here?” Conlan asked, suddenly butting into the conversation.
“We serve as guards of the Fantastic Frontier. Since we’re so close to the sea, we act as security measures for all pets coming in. We should probably inspect your bags to make sure you’re not actually spies working for whoever built the walls.”
Angie surrendered her bags to Oskar, while Conlan took off his coat.
“Hmm… Food, first aid, flashlight, matches, paint, fireworks, balloons, winter clothing, mesh cutters, desert veils, life vest, pickaxes, keys, spring traps… You’re almost cleared. However, having paint, fireworks, and balloons seems kind of strange. Are you throwing a party?”
“Not at all, sir.” Angie replied. “The paint, fireworks, balloons, mesh cutters, pickaxes, spring traps, and keys are all boosters to help us break the walls. Those boosters can break large amounts of blocks or change its state.”
“I see. Well then, you’re all clear!”
12 days had elapsed when Angie and Conlan declared that Pillage Village was wall-free. Oskar presented her with his green cape and took them to Mount Tiki on his Drakkar ship.
Mount Tiki was a sandy area inhabited by tropical birds. A green parrot flew towards them.
“Aloha, new visitors! I’m Iolana, and it’s been miserable in this village since the walls came down. I can hear the others calling for help. I need your help so that I can get the village back together. Maybe after that, my group and I can go back to the good old times as hula dancers.”
“Don’t worry. It’s what we came here for.”
Breaking walls was a routine mission until they reached a wall right across a gap near the volcano. The volcano wasn’t erupting, but lava was flowing from it into the gap.
“Well, this is what makes our village dangerous. Do you know a way to get to that wall?” Iolana asked?
“Hmm…” Angie thought. “You could fly on over and I can guide you on where to break the wall. That’s because there are certain spots on the wall that disappear when you touch them.”
This plan proved to work. However, when the lava bubbled, Iolana would suffer mild burns. After the wall was cleared, she carried Angie and Conlan across the gap.
After 17 days, the village was restored. All its citizens were waving at the same time as Angie and Conlan left.
Angie heard a cascading waterfall as she and Conlan entered Shipwood Forest. It had been converted into a pirate sanctuary, but it retained the spirit of a forest. There was a purple monkey dancing a jig.
“Y’arr, mateys! Welcome to Shipwood Forest! We get wood for ship-making here, but we only take enough. That’s because in the Pet World, you respect nature! Arrrgh! Yon waterfall over there leads to the sea, where we pirates roam! This is simply a sanctuary where pirates can restock, rest, and get to know each other! Yo-ho! However, the sanctuary is closed because walls are annoying in the wrong places.”
“Well then,” said Conlan. “We’ll just… I don’t know… do what we came here for, if you excuse me!”
22 days later, the walls of Shipwood forest were just a memory. The purple monkey gave them a tip.
“Yo-ho-ho! Pirates can come and go once again! Be wary, for ahead lies the golden fortress of Eldorado. I suggest you bow.”
When they arrived at Eldorado, Angie was fascinated with the golden idols out front. They heard flute music nearby.
“Listen, Angie.” Conlan whispered. “I’ve been to the fortress before. It’s a tradition for the current ruler of Fantastic Frontier to play that song on the pan flute when he exits the fortress for non-ceremonial reasons.”
“Ah, Detective Corgus. You’ve returned. I thought the Pet Snatchers caught you!”
“Your Highness, Princess Phoenicia found me, freed me, and let me stay in her castle until Angie came. Angie, this is Prince Elio.”
“Ah,” Prince Elio replied. “The unity between kingdoms is still strong, thank goodness.”
“Your Highness,” Angie started. “My name is Angie, and I’m a farmer from Animal Kingdom. My parents were kidnapped by the Pet Snatchers. I need you to give me permission to continue my journey.”
“Why, Angie, if you came this far, I can only allow you to continue. Detective Corgus, why are you with her?”
“Princess Phoenicia told me to come with her. Angie agreed to bring me along until we get to Mount Petmore station.”
“Good. That’s all I can say for now. You can go and break your walls now.”
After 18 days, Angie and Detective Corgus had triumphed over the walls placed over Eldorado.
“Now, Angie, may I reveal something to you?”
“What is it, Your Highness?”
Prince Elio went back into the castle and took a bone.
“Angie, this is no ordinary bone. My grandparents from many generations back carved this bone specifically to store our Crystal of Unity: a diamond. A very specific set of actions will open it.” He then twisted knobs around the bone until a diamond popped out.
“As you may know, each Crystal of Unity has a power. This gemstone can summon lightning, but I would rather not demonstrate that. Thank you for breaking the walls. Good luck, Angie and Detective Corgus.”
Angie and Detective Corgus took one look at Submarina. Thinking back, Angie realized that she had ways to traverse underwater areas. Now, all there was in front of her was a tube. Looking more closely, she realized that the tube was merely a road and that the submerged parts of the tube did indeed have water inside.
“Don’t worry, Angie.” Conlan said. “This is my kingdom.”
Conlan shouted into the tube: “Hey! We need gear for two! We got a standing corgi and a cat here!”
“Angie, stay away from the tube.”
She did what was told and a few seconds later, two large blue spheres were shot out of the tube.
“Alright, Angie, you see these white rings on each sphere? You need to hit ‘em with a pickaxe.”
Angie took out a pickaxe and hit the rings on both spheres. They unlocked and revealed a wetsuit, a mask and snorkel set, and flippers. They put the gear on before entering the tube.
“Well, I see you made it!” An aristocratic voice said. “I’m Von Sharp. Not only is my grin sharp, but so is my style of dress. Welcome to Submarina!”
23 days later, Angie and Conlan made it out of the tube. Von Sharp wanted to reward them with microwavable salmon, but only Angie accepted it.
“Now I know that you want to break walls. Keep the wetsuit and scuba gear, as you might need to use it again!” Von Sharp then waved them goodbye.
Angie and Conlan heard drilling noises as they exited the tube. It would take a while for them to take off their diving gear and dry themselves off.
