Chapter 10: The Journey Continues

Angie and Conlan heard the whir of drills as they got closer to the cave.

“Good thing I kept the hard hat the moles gave me. (See Chapter 5)” Angie said.

“Just great.” Conlan groaned. “You can enter a mine, but I can’t?! No fair!”

“Don’t worry. I’m not breaking these walls without you, that’s for sure.” She said.

Angie entered the mine and saw a dinosaur putting some gems into a knapsack.

“Huh? A visitor? A visitor hasn’t come to the mine in YEARS! Welcome! It sure was getting boring in here. I’m Ambert. Nice to meet you.”

“Ambert, may I borrow a hard hat? My whiney friend needs to enter as well. You see, I came here to break boundaries. That last sentence isn’t just metaphorical, you know.”

“Metaphorical? What do you mean?”

“In other words, I know how to break the walls!”

“Oh…” Ambert replied. “Okay then, here’s a hard hat.”

Soon enough, Angie and Conlan were breaking walls together.

There was one wall which Angie and Conlan had been trying to break for three days while Ambert mined for more gems. All the pets they needed were within sight, but there was no way they could rescue them.

“Oh? It looks like you’re having a hard time! Maybe I can help you!” Ambert remarked.

Ambert placed a glowing blue gemstone inside a compartment. A loud drilling sound was heard.

“Yes!” He remarked. “The ULTADRILL 3000 still works! It should be strong enough to break it!”

He directed the humongous drill towards the wall and it crumbled to pieces. The pets scampered towards Angie. He then took the gemstone out of the compartment. Its power had been sucked out of it, and all that remained was a simple transparent gem.

“The ULTADRILL 3000 is our most powerful drill yet! Its fuel is Cerulardor gemstones, which is the most common gem in this mine. It’s the only machine in our universe that’s powered by gems!”

3 weeks later, Angie had finally reached Conlan’s home, Mount Petmore Station.

“Detective Corgus! You finally came back!” A nearby voice said.

“Long time no see, Officer Foxy!” Conlan hugged her.

“I see you know each other very well.” Angie chimed in.

“Before the walls came down, Detective Corgus and I worked together, solving cases and fighting crime around Fantastic Frontier. When the walls came down, he embarked on a journey to break them. At some point, he was caught. When he was rescued, he sent a telegram to me from the castle in Lost and Foundland. I replied saying that I saw the Pet Snatchers dropping new walls in the places where he had broken them. Thank you for bringing him back.”

“You’re welcome.” Angie replied. “However, I can’t risk him getting caught again. After I break the walls here, I’ll be on my own once again.”

“I understand what you mean. In his telegrams, he frequently talks about exacting revenge on the Pet Snatchers by stealing their things. I constantly warn him against it because he may get caught again.” Officer Foxy replied.

Angie, Officer Foxy, and Detective Corgus broke walls as a team. At some point, Angie saw a bronze glowing dog alongside the regular pets.

“Angie, that is the Bronze Dog, one of the legendary Pet Spirits. Come to the sculpture and I’ll tell you all about them.” Officer Foxy said.

“Before Detective Corgus embarked on his wall-breaking journey, there were four young pets: a dog, a cat, a panda, and a polar bear. They were studying in the Multistory Stack Literary Center. (See Chapter 8) When the walls came down, they were determined to break them. When they got to Mount Petmore Station, one of the Pet Snatchers saw them and said that he wanted to shoot them. Detective Corgus and I tried to protect them and drive the Pet Snatcher away, but he knocked us down and succeeded in shooting them to death. Right after we buried them, Detective Corgus took the pet-saving supplies they left behind and set off to finish what they had started. I wanted to honor them somehow, so I hired a dinosaur from Dino’s Den to carve their heads into the rock. Just as he was coming to start working on the fourth head, the Pet Snatchers started rebuilding the walls the pets had broken, trapping him in the process. A few hours after that, I saw four glowing streaks falling from the sky. I discovered that those streaks were the spirits of the pets who were killed by the Pet Snatchers! They told me that Princess Cerula of the Sunset Sanctuary had given their souls powers that would help those trying to break the walls.”

“The dog now glowed bronze and had the ability to increase the amount of silver pawns dropped after breaking a wall.”

“The cat was now silver and had the power to speed up the time it took for a predetermined booster to respawn.”

“The panda, now the Golden Panda, needed to reunite with the Bronze Dog and the Silver Cat for its powers to be unlocked. It granted its rescuer an extremely powerful bomb that would break all the blocks of a wall when thrown.”

“The polar bear was now a rainbow color and it had the ability to give its rescuer an additional booster when reunited with the Bronze Dog and the Silver Cat. He could only be seen when the rescuer hadn’t used the Golden Panda’s bomb.”

“Also, my sculptor said one of his friends played a prank and chipped away at the Cat’s head to change it into a pig. There’s nothing we can do about it, so I just leave it alone.”

A few days later, the team was breaking a different wall. Right after they broke it, a runaway train with walls on it came hurtling down. Sheriff Foxy successfully pushed everyone out, but they were not without injury. Angie’s tail was now bleeding, Conlan’s coat got ripped, but Sheriff Foxy had suffered the most. One of the train’s wheels ran over her right hind foot, breaking several bones. The conductor, a beaver, came out to apologize.

“Wow. I’m sorry for injuring you guys.” The conductor said. “I’m lucky that there weren’t any passengers on the train and that I was just bringing it back to Mount Petmore Station. What in the world is even on my train right now?

“Sir, those things are walls.” Detective Corgus said. “Please do not move your train until they are cleared. I need to treat my friends.”

“Open my satchel.” Angie instructed. “There’s an emergency kit inside.”

Detective Corgus treated Angie and Officer Foxy’s wounds and confined them into the house. Angie was only confined overnight, while Officer Foxy would be confined until her broken bone healed.

These events happened within 22 days. Detective Corgus gave Angie a lasso right before bidding adieu to her.

“Angie,” Officer Foxy said. “Don’t take the train. This is a long-distance train and the only other station so far is in Memory Lane, which is 6 kingdoms away. Since you want to rescue all the pets, I say you just continue on by foot.”

Mystic Map was a town full of homing pigeons. They flew around the Pet World, took down notes, and created maps to sell to pirates.

“Croo! Croo! Welcome to Mystic Maps, the shop for all your mapmaking and navigational needs! I’m your good ol’ cartographer, Marpa!”

Angie started breaking a wall. After a few attempts, Marpa remarked: “Looks like you’re having a hard time! Let me see you break the wall and maybe I can map it!”
“Um, thank you?” Angie replied.

Marpa did create an extremely helpful map that reminded Angie of what was coming and allowed her to plan for it. When he created more maps, Angie cut the amount of time spent in Mystic Map by half.

10 days later, Marpa gave Angie a compass and a map of the Pet world. She then continued on to the next area.

Angie set foot in a road for the first time in a long time. Real cities were few and far between in the Pet World, and Petropolis was one of them. There was a small brown mouse hopping around, completely ignoring Angie as if the walls never existed.

16 days had elapsed when Angie had crossed the road to Bunny Moon Base.

Bunny Moon Base was a not-so-hostile part of the desert where bunnies trained for missions to other planets. The Pet World was rapidly expanding, so they were training to go to other planets.

“Hello there! My name is Kymani, and I’m training to become an astronaut. The walls, man, THE WALLS! When will someone clearing them?”

“Alright then, I’m working on it. Also, what are you holding?”

“This? It’s the flag of Fantastic Frontier. If you know its history, then you know that the diamond is its Crystal of Unity and that the bone is its vessel.”

“Yes, Prince Elio told me about it. I’ll be going right back to work.”

Angie noticed a robot going towards a satellite dish and started working on it. After a while, a computerized voice said: “Environment recognized. Coordinates set. Update complete.”

A fortnight later, Angie was ready to go to Fable Forest. However, Kymani stopped her.

“You see that pod over there? It’s connected to a control room. It’s supposed to be placed on top of that purple launch tower so that people can use it to travel from here to Fable Forest. However, the walls are keeping us from building another launch tower in Fable Forest, and since the pod’s driverless, it can’t function until both launch towers are established.”

“For now, you’ll have to take the rocket, which is our only functioning transportation device as of now. I’m really not looking forward to this, but it’s the only way as of now. Be sure to wear warm clothes, because our landing site is cold and we probably won’t have a smooth ride. Do you really want to do this?

“Yes.” Angie replied.

“Alright then.” Kymani said. “Let’s go.”
